Translators
The success of a book in a second language depends entirely on the skill, hard work and inventiveness of the person who translates it into that language. This is my tribute to these unsung heroes of fiction

Croatia – Igor Rendić
Igor Rendić is a literary translator, writer, editor, and podcaster from Rijeka, Croatia. He’s so far translated hundreds of short stories and multiple genre fiction bestselling novels by world renowned authors. He’s one of the editors of Morina kutija, an online speculative fiction magazine and a co-host of Mora FM, a Croatian podcast about writing. His short fiction in Croatian has won several genre literary awards. His urban fantasy trilogy in English, “A Town Called River” is available from Shtriga Books.

Portugal – Célia Correia Loureiro
I am Célia Loureiro, Mr. Aaronovitch’s Portuguese translator, and I’ve always known that books would play a significant role in my life. At 35, I work exclusively as a translator, while also writing novels and pursuing a Master’s degree in History at the University of Évora. I moved to the Alentejo region in early 2025, leaving behind a life full of distractions in the “big city.”
Here, I paint, restore old furniture, walk my dogs, bake cakes, and contemplate the stars on summer nights. And, of course, I continue to write and translate.

Netherlands – Charlaine and Inouchka Kreuning
We are Charlaine and Inouchka Kreuning, two Dutch sisters who have been translating together since 2017. Back in 2020 we started our own company: De Vertaalzusjes (The Translating Sisters). With almost twenty years of combined experience, we have built up a portfolio of over fourty published books, ranging from fantasy and YA to biographies and literature. As of 2025 we are also proud to call ourselves the Dutch translators of the works of mister Aaronovitch.
When we’re not busy translating, reviewing or having lengthy discussions about plot elements, Charlaine likes to cuddle up with her dog Brownie or read from her ever growing TBR list. Inouchka spends her time playing videogames, cuddling with her cat Daxter (named after the video game character, not the fictional guy from Miami) and accidentally bedazzling her house with the gems from her diamond paintings.
