Future Worlds Prize
is one that seeks out and celebrates the best new genre writing from unpublished writers of colour in Britain and Ireland. It was founded in 2020 by Ben and his publisher, Gollancz. Now the prize works with ten of the best publishers of speculative fiction in the country, and over the years has seen its winners go on to find agents, get published and hit bestsellers lists. Future Worlds finalists also pop up at literature and SFF festivals across the country. The prize is open for submissions from October to January, with the winner announcement taking place in June. The winner receives £8,500, the runner-up £4,500, and six shortlistees each receive £850. In addition to the cash prizes, all finalists win a publishing mentor for a year, plus ongoing support to meet agents, find out more about the publishing industry and take part in events.
